Alan Cumming's Emmy Win for 'The Traitors' Snaps RuPaul's Streak

Alan Cumming's Emmy win for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program notched a victory for the queer actor and comedian, but also marked the end of a long streak for another queer TV icon – RuPaul, who took the prize for eight years in a row.
Cumming, who hosts the international hit "The Traitors," "wowed viewers all season with his fabulous costumes and dramatic speeches on the murderous competition series," Entertainment Weekly said.
Though RuPaul's reign has come to an end (at least for now), the "Drag Race" icon's "streak of wins," EW noted, "remains undefeated, and he stands as the most-decorated Black artist in Emmys history, with a total of 13 statues to his name."
While kudos are in order to Cumming for the well-deserved honor, don't expect to see him replicate RuPaul's unlikely feat.
"The two hosts who come closest to [RuPaul's] record are [Jeff] Probst with four past wins for 'Survivor' and Jane Lynch with two for 'Hollywood Game Night.'"
"Heidi Klum ('Project Runway') and Tom Bergeron ('Dancing With the Stars') tie RuPaul with the most nominations, at nine each," EW detailed, "but neither host their respective shows any longer."
RuPaul's success was also echoed in the many Emmys that the long-running "Drag Race" has captured over the years in a range of categories – including, EW pointed out, "the big award, Outstanding Reality Competition Program."
The aura of success "Drag Race" exudes carries over into the projects that various contestants from seasons past have gone on to do, and the Emmys that those projects have garnered.
"Past 'Drag Race' contestants Delta Work and Raven have taken home Emmys of their own for hair and makeup, respectively," EW noted, "while season 8 contestant Laila McQueen became the first former 'Drag Race' star to win an Emmy for her work on a different program, 2022's 'We're Here.'"
But RuPaul hasn't got time to rest on his laurels, busy as he is with the ongoing success of "DragRace" and it various spinoffs – including the RuPaul-hosted "RuPaul's Drag Race Global All Stars," which streams on Paramount+.
Prior to his win, Cumming confessed to not being a fan of the reality genre. But, he disclosed, he enjoys the "character" he gets to play on "The Traitors" – and a major part of that is the costuming, which is overseen by stylist Sam Specter.
