The Things that Cirque du Soleil's Victor Huusko Can't Perform Without
Christopher Ehlers READ TIME: 12 MIN.
Since premiering eight years ago in Montreal, "Corteo" has visited more than 60 cities in 19 countries, and has been seen by more than nine million people. Coming to Boston's Agganis Arena from June 8-11, "Corteo" will then continue on in a North American tour that will end in San Francisco in August.
Hailing from Finland, circus performer Victor Huusko is on tour with "Corteo," appearing in the "Paradis" Act. Here are the things he can't perform without:
Iced Hazelnut Latte
"There is not a better way to kick-start your brain in the morning than with a nice Iced double shot coffee. And, thankfully, if there isn't a coffee shop close by, our company catering has all the goods provided to make that happen every morning."
Foam Roller
"This is a must! We usually perform five to nine times a week, adding on all the trainings and gym sessions, the body is hurting. So, I always make sure I have a chunk of time to roll out the whole body, so all the muscles are awake and ready for a new day."
Babbel
"Babbel is a new addition to my morning routine. Working in a company with a lot of different nationalities and a lot of different languages spoken around you makes it a perfect environment to learn a new language. Using Babbel makes that initial jump a bit smoother and has built up my vocabulary to start making conversations with cast mates I otherwise couldn't communicate with." Babbel.com.
Philips OneBade
"The OneBlade literally saves so much time of my pre-show preparations. Being a man in a show where they wish most of us to not have full beards, getting the shaving done in a couple minutes makes it easy rather than a whole procedure." $38, Philips.
Clinique for Men Maximum Hydrator
"Having show make-up on for a full day with the addition of performance-level sweating and sensitive skin is not a good combo for my face. Having that one amazing product to bring back your skin to a bouncy, heathy level is definitely worth it." $44, Ulta.
Versace Eros Eau de Toilette
"This fragrance is there for me and everyone around me. As a sweaty performer, having a good perfume makes you feel good during the day and the show. And, for sure, my cast mates appreciate smelling a fresh scent rather than sweat." $75-$184, Macy's.
Got2b Glued Blasting Freeze Spray
"If there is one hairspray in the world that makes my spike-straight hair stay in form, that lasts a full day of performing, doesn't move even with head piece changes and running around on the stage, it is this one. I always make sure we are stockpiled on our show to make sure I will look my best at show time." $8.49, Ulta.
Apple AirPods & iPad Mini
"I might be a bit brand-loyal, but these two really help me get zoned in to the right mind set before a performance. I will always be with my Airpods in my ears while putting my make-up on and while warming up. There is just something about putting the noise cancellation on and listening to one of my favorite podcasts, or simply getting pumped up with a pre performance playlist. My iPad mini will also always be with me everywhere. It is there to make notes about corrections of the previous show/training, so I can keep on always improving and fine-tuning my skills." Apple.com.
Hydro Flask and Liquid IV
"Lastly, hydration! I am not naturally a water drinker; I keep myself always busy during the day, so for the most part I forget to drink water. Having a funky water bottle that I like makes it easier for me to have it on me throughout the day. Plus, mixing some Liquid IV into it has me feeling good and makes sure that I keep replenishing all the minerals necessary while performing."
Hydro Flask 32 oz Wide Mouth
$45, Hydro Flask.
Liquid IV Hydration Multiplier
$24, Liquid IV.
