The Things that 'Dance Nation''s Audrey Johnson Can't Perform Without
Christopher Ehlers READ TIME: 9 MIN.
Continuing its reputation for producing some of the most compelling and interesting work in New England, Chelsea's Apollinaire Theatre Company is staging Clare Barron's 2019 Pulitzer finalist "Dance Nation" through May 14. Audrey Johnson stars as Amina, the best dancer in a group of pre-teen competitive dancers who have their eyes set on the national competition in Tampa.
Here are the things that Audrey Johnson can't perform without:
Ello Cooper Tritan Water Bottle
"I don't go anywhere without my water bottle! It's important to stay hydrated during the course of the show, and using a reusable water bottle helps lower plastic waste. Plus this water bottle has a removable straw which I use for vocal warm-ups."$12.99, Target.
Series-8 Fitness Extra Thick Yoga & Exercise Mat
"I like a long body warm up before a show. I stretch out on my mat for about 30 minutes before I perform. I like fitness mats instead of yoga mats because they have thicker padding." $5, Five Below.
Dove Men+Care 72-Hour Deodorant
"I think everyone would die if I didn't have this. I am such a sweaty person and this is a life saver. I especially like this brand because it goes on clear and doesn't stain costumes. Also no aluminum!" $7.49, Target.
Goody Ouchless Elastic Hair Ties
"I need my hair out of my face when I perform, and this is such and easy solution. It helps that they blend into my hair." $4.29, Target.
Capezio Adult Transition Tights
"I love these tights. Not only to they make quick changes easier for me, but they have adjustable feet! So I can have them completely on when I were shoes and roll them up when I need to be barefoot!" $17, Dancewear Solutions.
Spotify
"I need music to get me pumped before the show. I usually play a hippie or girl power playlist while I warm up. It's also nice because the songs we dance to in the show are on Spotify so I can get a quick practice run in."
Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream
"I'm really not great at makeup but I always put on tinted bb cream before the show. It evens out my skin tone and leaves me moisturized." $9.49, Target.
"Dance Nation" runs through May 14 at Apollinaire Theatre, 189 Winnisimmet St., Chelsea. Tickets and more information available here.
