Horror UnScripted Plays at The Broad Stage

READ TIME: 2 MIN.

LA's own Impro Theatre continues their residency at The Edye at The Broad Stage, presenting a different style of their signature improvisation for one weekend, each month. October, of course, marks the month of "Horror UnScripted," running October 27-29). With "Horror UnScripted," Impro Theatre creaks open the door of unease and terror as they present completely improvised plays, inspired by the complex psychological horror movies of the 1970s.

"We're both huge fans of horror films, but particularly the super atmospheric ones where you're forced to just sit in the unease, films like 'The Shining,' 'Rosemary's Baby,' and 'The Amityville Horror,'" said Co-Directors Edi Patterson and Ryan Smith. "We love those unsettling stories that thrive off of the fear and desperation that live inside us all. October seemed like the perfect time to play around with madness, murder, ghosts, isolation, possession and the whole gamut of horror staples. And since each show is based on audience suggestions, don't blame us if you leave the Broad Stage afraid to walk to your car."

The residency continues with seven more months of unpredictable, improvised plays in the styles of
"LA Noir UnScripted" (November 10-12), "Jane Austen UnScripted" (December 15-17), "Chekhov UnScripted" (February 23-25), "Twilight Zone UnScripted" (March 16-18), "Shakespeare UnScripted" (April 20-22), "Dorothy Parker UnScripted" (May 18-20) and "Tennessee Williams UnScripted" (June 15-17).

In addition to their residency at The Edye at The Broad Stage, Impro Theatre will also perform "Fairytales UnScripted" on the mainstage on February 3. This performance is part of The Broad Stage's Family programming.

Impro Theatre has a long history with The Broad Stage, where the company performed "Jane Austen UnScripted" for several years, performed the world premiere of "Fairytale UnScripted" and performed the world premiere of "1966 Holiday Variety Extravaganza" last December.

Impro Theatre received two 2016 Ovation Award nominations: "Best Presented Production" for "Jane Austen UnScripted" at The Broad Stage and "Best Featured Actress in a Musical" for Michele Spears' performance in "Sondheim UnScripted." The Los Angeles Times calls Impro Theatre, "One of the funniest evenings in town... an amazing comedy troupe spins an entire play into comedy gold right before your eyes."

Impro Theatre's "Horror UnScripted" runs October 27-29 at The Edye at The Broad Stage, 1310 11th St. Santa Monica CA 90401. Parking is free. Tickets are $45.
