Celebrate Bisexual Awareness Week By Showing Your Support
READ TIME: 3 MIN.
From September 17-24, join GLAAD in recognizing the bisexual+ community for Bisexual Awareness Week, including Celebrate Bisexuality+ Day on September 23. This day is a call for the bisexual community, their friends and supporters to recognize and celebrate bisexual history, bisexual community and culture, and all the bisexual people in their lives.
Co-founded by GLAAD and first observed in 1999, Bisexual Awareness Week seeks to accelerate acceptance of the bi+ community. #BiWeek draws attention to the public policy concerns, while also celebrating the resiliency of the bisexual community.
Throughout #BiWeek, allies and bi+ people learn about the history, culture, community and current policy priorities of bi+ communities. In the early part of the week, we look at elders, activists, and events that shaped and changed our world and our community.
From Tuesday-Thursday, we will be sharing our stories, highlighting activists and celebrities who are out and proud and standing up, and our community in culture, diversity, disparities, etc. Share our stories of biphobia.
From Friday to Sunday, the focus will be on our goals, our youth, and our bisexual+ agenda needs to accomplish in the future. This will include the need for research, studies, etc. Explore how we can move forward in regards to the racism, biphobia, transphobia, acephobia, ageism, classism, ableism, etc. that plague our world and the greater LGBTQIA community. We will highlight "up and coming" activists who are leading us forward.
